Nowadays more and more companies are choosing to hire people to work from home instead of working on-site. There are also people that just don’t want to work at an office and they just create their own business. This brings in the question: is it better to work onsite or from home? Let’s find out the pros and cons for each option!
Right off the bat, working at the office allows you to follow a strict schedule. It’s a lot easier to manage your time and life this way since you know what is expected each day. On top of that, there’s always some motivation for growing your career and trying to reach the next level as quickly as possible. In addition, you have competition sometimes in your own team, so you will learn how to adapt to working in a team and surpass other people’s skills. And yes, you also get to create your own social network and interact with people. This is actually one of the main reasons why a lot of people choose to work onsite.
But there are downsides too. You need to commute and that will eat up at least an hour of your day. There are also offices where you don’t really have that many chances to evolve your career. And if you want some peace and quiet, you rarely get that when you work onsite.
Working from home
Working at home will save you time by, well, staying at home. That also eliminates the commute. Not only that, but you define when you want to work and how you want to work. It really helps a lot because you get to avoid working late nights or very early mornings, while working onsite won’t allow you to do that for the most part. There’s also the fact that you can dress in any way you want and that definitely brings in more comfort and fun to the entire experience. Plus, you get to be in control of what devices you use to work on, and you can define the work environment as you see fit.
The problems with working from home is that you will not have that much interaction with other people. Not only that, you will find it hard to see the lines between work and personal life. And that can be an issue, because you want to have a great life without having your work affect it all the time. Then there’s also the fact that you will have to solve all technical problems which appear. That can end up being tiresome and problematic very quickly. It relies a lot on your discipline, and if you don’t have that then it might be a better idea not to work from home.
As you can see, working from home or onsite can be great as long as you know how to make the most out of every opportunity. There are also downsides, which is why you really have to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. But it will be worth it in both cases as long as it fits your lifestyle and ideas!
